Adapt the issues of continuity and coordination to the home, without transforming the family into a command structure.
Functions to preserve
An organization seeks to maintain its important functions despite a disruption. For the home, translate this idea into concrete needs: drinking water, safe temperature, food, care, communication and the possibility of leaving.
A reservation is not enough if it is inaccessible or unusable. Examine for each need the people, objects, services and information needed. A home plan is not a business continuity certification.
Clarify roles and plan relays
Who has the contacts, knows the equipment and can help a person? Spread the tasks with the interested parties and check that an absence does not block an essential function. Important information must remain accessible in a secure manner.
A precise responsibility helps follow-up; a second person able to take it back avoids a single addiction. Children participate according to their abilities, without carrying the security of the home alone.
Prepare several options
For each dependency, identify what can temporarily replace the service and under what conditions. A confirmed drinking water supply, autonomous lighting and possible accommodation meet different needs.
Thresholds must be derived from the hazard and instructions. There is no universal alert “level 3” or fixed time at which an auxiliary heating must be started or a center joined. Use a device only under the conditions for which it is authorized.
Put the plan to the test without putting yourself at risk
A paper exercise can fictitiously remove a resource: unavailable vehicle, discharged phone or absent person. Check what’s still possible and help him ask. Don’t cut off an indispensable service to make the simulation more realistic.
After the exercise, note a correction, a manager and a deadline. Preserve also what has worked. Review after a move, health change, or new family organization, and then at an agreed-upon pace.

Your action: For an essential activity, note the person who is acting, the necessary resource and an alternative.
To check: A relay exists; the solution does not depend on a single person or device.
