PrépaCivile · Household preparedness

Clear information. Transparent guidance.

Our method of linking the risks of everyday life, useful references and actions that everyone can adapt.

Our editorial line

Inform with measure, to help decide.

Household preparedness is based on understanding risks, prevention and the development of useful capabilities. Our writing focuses on accessible explanations, concrete consequences and proportionate measures.

We aim to make the available choices, assumptions and limitations clear. Scenarios help people think through a situation; including one in an article does not mean it is likely.

Understand before equipping. The equipment is one way among others. A plan discussed, a skill maintained and a network of relatives also have their place.

From the subject to action

An editorial path in five stages.

  1. Defining the stakeIdentify a plausible disturbance or issue that is useful for the preparation of the home.
  2. Clarify contextExamine the territory, season, housing, infrastructure and individuals involved.
  3. Search and DistinguishReconcil relevant institutional references, available data and feedback. Distinguish facts, assumptions and planning choices.
  4. Proposing realistic actionsPresent understandable prevention and preparedness measures, with their limitations and limitations.
  5. Read and improveCheck consistency, correct reported errors and revise information when context or references evolve.

Official recommendations

A recommendation is linked to its organization, territory and context where these elements are relevant. An updated local instruction takes precedence over a general example.

Feedback from experience

An experiment helps to understand the constraints of a situation. It must be contextualised and does not, on its own, constitute evidence applicable to all households.

Calculators

Planning assumptions

The starting values, coefficients and scenarios are explained. The result of a calculation depends on the data entered; it does not guarantee a duration of autonomy or a real result.

Territories

Local adaptations

The practices and rules may differ between Quebec, Canada and French-speaking European countries. Check the instructions of your municipality and relevant organizations.
