Your estimated energy need

For adults aged 19 and over, according to the equations published by Health Canada. This result is not a dietary prescription.

The activity describes your entire day, not just your sports sessions. See Health Canada's definitions in the references below. Both profiles are categories of published equations; they do not describe all individual situations.

Understand, then plan

01

Calculation method

Estimated energy requirement (EER) combines age, height, weight and activity category. Each category has its own equation; the calculation does not multiply resting metabolism by an activity factor.

The planning total uses the unrounded result multiplied by the duration, then is rounded to 100 kcal. The table compares the four categories without changing your other parameters.

02

In practice

First compose realistic menus with foods you eat and know how to prepare. Check the servings, labels, water and cooking facilities. Adjust your reserves to each person.

The level of activity may change during an evacuation or interruption of services. A scenario does not predict your actual expenditure.

03

Limitations and precautions

This estimate does not measure your actual energy expenditure. It does not prescribe a diet or calorie deficit, or promise weight loss. Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding and particular medical needs require an appropriate method.

This interface accepts ages 19–100, weights 30–300 kg and heights 100–250 cm. These input limits do not establish clinical suitability. Ask a qualified professional for advice if the available profiles do not fit your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are calories and kilocalories the same?

In the food language, "calorie" usually refers to a kilocalorie (kcal). All results of this tool are in kcal.

Can I use this total for my entire household?

No. Calculate the appropriate benchmarks for each adult. For children and special situations, ask for appropriate support.

Why is there no weight-loss target?

Food preparedness requires a reasonable estimate of needs and suitable menus. A change in body weight cannot reliably be predicted by simple daily subtraction.
