Equipment? ✔️
Plans? ✔️
Training? 🤔

This is a point often overlooked by Foreseeing Citizens: the Practical Training.
It is not enough to have equipment and a plan. Without regular training, you may discover the flaws in your preparation too late.

The good news? These exercises can be fun, educational and strengthen family cohesion. Involve your loved ones, organize a few sessions each month and adjust your plans according to the results.

Why exercise regularly?

  • Test your Equipment in real conditions
  • Identifying them flaws in your plans
  • Strengthening the Trust of the whole family
  • Acquiring Automatic reflexes In case of crisis
  • Reducing stress in the face of the unexpected

10 Practical Exercises for Emergency Training

1. Blackout Night

Do an announced and brief exercise to find a lamp and contacts without the main lighting. Do not cut off any medical equipment, safety device, heating or food preservation.

2. Evacuation exercise

Locate exits and gathering points, then do an advertised exercise suitable for the occupants. Distinguish the immediate evacuation of a fire, without recovery of objects, from a departure prepared at the request of the authorities.

3. Hiking with evacuation bag

Walk with your bag on your back, even a few kilometers. You will discover its real weight and the necessary adjustments.

4. Mental training

Every day, observe your reactions to stress and ask yourself: “How could I have handled this situation better?”.

5. Alternative cuisine

Test a meal without cooking or a device intended for the chosen use and location. Barbecue, generator and camping stove should not be used in the accommodation. Respect the distances, ventilation and instructions of the manufacturer.

6. Hunting and gathering

Take an accompanied observation trip if necessary, without harvesting or consuming an unidentified plant with certainty. Evacuation should not depend on hunting or gathering.

7. Return from work on foot

Consider an alternative return trip. If a walk is realistic for you, test a short and safe route with a return solution. Also provide an option for someone who can’t walk that distance.

8. Self-defense

Work on prevention, avoiding confrontation, and asking for help. Do not incorporate spray, stick or gun into a family exercise. A specialized activity requires a legal framework and competent professionals.

9. Disaster Exercises

Practice regularly:

  • Simulation of fire
  • Earthquake
  • Flooding
  • Chemical spill

10. First Aid Training

Take recognized first aid training. Use a mannequin and instructional materials for gestures that require it. Do not put a health tourniquet on a loved one to test and do not practice suture or stapling as a preparedness.

Training is the key to any successful preparation. It transforms your theoretical plans into practical reflexes. Each exercise is an opportunity to learn, improve and strengthen family resilience.

Choose a frequency that is compatible with your home. After each test, note a difficulty and the correction to be made, then check this correction in the next session.

It is better to fail during training than during a real crisis.
