Calculation method
For each item included: mass = quantity × unit weight in grams ÷ 1,000. The total bag adds up these masses, the empty bag and water it contains. For planning, 1 L of water is counted as about 1 kg; the empty container is counted separately.
Items worn or carried on your body and items in the vehicle have separate totals. Your total carried load includes the bag plus items marked “on your body”. Unchecked items are excluded. One pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg.
Example: empty bag 1.5 kg + water 2 L + two lamps 100 g = 3.7 kg in the bag. A 500 g coat declared "on your body" carries the load on the person to 4.2 kg; it does not change the total of the bag.
