So... Can we really be ready for anything?
Can we be ready for anything?
No preparation covers all events. The goal is to reduce frequent vulnerabilities and maintain an ability to adapt to unforeseen events.
Past events help to understand some risks, but they donât exactly determine the next one. Local advice, the needs of the home and changing circumstances must also guide the preparation.
We can also examine our daily lives and identify our Weak points :
- Total dependence on electricity,
- a fridge that is always empty,
- A lack of basic skills.
By turning them into strengths, we reduce our vulnerability.
The only thing we really control is ourselves. Our attitude, our skills, our choices. Not the rest of the world. And thatâs already a lot.
The only constant: change
As much as we can learn from the past and anticipate certain scenarios, there will always be opportunities. Unknown. The more we are prepared for these unknowns, the less they will destabilize us.
The pandemic is the perfect example:
- Few had anticipated the confinements,
- Few imagined the emergency measures,
- Few predicted the scale of the protests and social tensions.
Personal preparation complements the action of relatives, communities, suppliers and public services. Responsibilities are shared; everyone acts within their means and may need assistance.
Identify the actions that belong to your home and the supports to contact. An agreement with relatives and knowledge of local resources can be as important as equipment.
Preparation as a way of life
Preparing is not about striving for perfection. You will always feel that something is missing. But every step counts:
- A small stock is better than nothing,
- A learned basic skill is better than zero,
- A failed attempt is better than inaction.
Preparation is an TravelNot a race.

The only constant is change.
