A prolonged breakdown, interruption of transportation, or evacuation may require you to reach a safe place with what you are wearing. This urban emergency kit organizes the equipment around tasks: transport, drink, see, communicate, protect yourself from the climate and perform first aid within its reach. She takes over the KUSU project by adapting it to a progressive and realistic preparedness.
Start by distinguishing three needs: a travel kit that you actually wear, an evacuation bag adapted to the home and the reserves of the home. The list below helps to prepare for a disturbed movement; it does not guarantee 72 hours of autonomy or a universal weight. Water, clothing, treatments and individual needs determine the final content.
Set the task before filling the bag
Example of editorial work, and not official standard: an autonomous adult must join, during a disturbed day, an identified accommodation in his agglomeration. Note the main route, a walkable detour, the possible duration, the weather, the transport available and where to get help or drinking water. Increase resources if travel, heat, cold or medical needs require it. If the load becomes incompatible with your abilities, change the moving plan rather than removing an essential need.

Starting inventory: quantities, choice and storage
The quantities below are a starting point for the example of an adult, to be adjusted and tested. They do not certify any duration of autonomy. Start with the material already possessed; buy only the missing functions. Divide the shared means within the group, without making a person dependent on a bag that could be separated from his own.

The backpack: carry and find the equipment
Provide a bag that fits your load, interior protection for sensitive objects and an organization that you can use without emptying everything. Place the water, lamp and care in quick access. Try carrying with the full contents, including water and clothing. The volume alone does not allow you to choose: check the useful dimensions, the adjustments, the opening and the empty weight.
The source article’s HAZARD 4 Grayman Patrol is identified by its ASIN B074RLQDTQ, but its Canadian record was unavailable at checkout. The Osprey Daylite Plus bag serves as a carry replacement in the selection below. It’s not the same product or a full 72-hour kit.

No outdoor combustion appliance shall be used to heat an apartment, tent or enclosed space.
A lighter and storm-proof matches can complete a justified outdoor module. They are not among the 27 maps retrieved from the source page; therefore, they remain presented as options, without artificial addition to this commercial inventory.
Food and Water: Quantifying What You Carry
Bring clean drinking water and identify a safe supply. The federal benchmark of at least two litres per person per day is included in the preparation advice; actual requirements and water for other uses must be provided separately. Two liters transported in our example do not constitute a complete reserve of 72 hours. Take stock of the focus and movement before validating the volume.
A portable filter is not a universal purifier. Before adding one, check its package insert for contaminants, exclusions, useful flow, maintenance, freezing and duration of use. Do not consider water from an urban flood or potentially chemically contaminated water as made drinkable by a hiking filter. Follow local advice; if the quality is unknown, change your supply point. The means of treatment remains a conditional supplement, never an excuse to leave without water.
The four historic functions are preserved: compact feeding, water transport, emergency treatment and water supply. The Canadian and French variants are named separately. An empty bottle does not constitute a reserve; an emergency treatment does not justify the use of any water.
Food without cooking
A compact ration complements your usual ready-to-eat foods. Check the package calories, allergens, dates and your tolerance; a package does not automatically represent 72 hours.

Environmental protection: hands, eyes, ears and breathing
Suitable gloves and glasses can be used for ordinary scheduled tasks. A particulate filter does not protect against all gases or vapours and does not provide oxygen. Do not cross a smoky, toxic or forbidden area by relying on a mask stored in the bag. Stay away, respect the perimeters and follow the instructions. For an identified professional need, the choice of the device, its adjustment and training are part of a program adapted to the risk.
The historical article also mentioned ear protection. If a planned task involves sound exposure justifying hearing protection, choose it for this risk and control its use. During a trip, remain able to perceive alarms, vehicles and instructions; the avoidance of a dangerous area remains a priority. Check the size and condition of the gloves, the cleanliness and fit of the glasses, and the conditions of use of each protection. This group is not a universal set of disaster protection.
The cards offer protections for ordinary identified tasks: glasses, hearing protection, particle mask and gloves. The model, size, fit and limits must be checked; this equipment does not allow entry into an area of smoke or chemical exposure.

A person who is unconscious or breathing abnormally requires emergency care: call the local emergency number (911 in Canada; 112 in France), follow the instructions and apply the gestures of your training. The ammonia blisters proposed in the old text are not included in this first aid kit. They do not replace the assessment or management of a loss of consciousness.
Potassium iodide is not a general protection against radiation. It only protects the thyroid against radioactive iodine in certain circumstances and should only be taken with instructions from public health authorities. It is not part of the universal shopping list offered here.
Check the actual contents of any purchased kit. The French kit below is sold empty and must be filled; the Canadian kit must also be checked and completed. Sterile compresses and disposable gloves are used for routine care according to your training.
