A folding knife with back lock, or Lockback, can be used for outdoor cutting tasks. The choice depends on the work planned, the handling, the maintenance and the rules of the place. No locking mechanism makes a blade foolproof and a knife does not replace a saw, lever or punching tool.
Understanding the back lock

Follow the model instructions to open and close the blade. Keep your fingers out of his path. Length, steel and weight sometimes vary between versions with a close name. Compare the exact reference, not just the photograph or business family. The guarantee must be read with its exclusions; it does not constitute protection against injury.
Buck 110 Folding Hunter
The 110 is a well-known example of Buck folding knife. Its traditional format may interest a person who is looking for a substantial handle and accepts its clutter. Check the proposed version, its steel, its dimensions and its mode of transport rather than calling it a light or cheaper office.
Try to get started before a purchase when possible. An established name does not prove that the format is suitable for the small hands or specific tasks you are planning.
Buck 286 Bantam BHW

It indicates for this reference a blade of 9.2 cm and a closed length of 13 cm. So do not present this model as automatically suitable for small hands. Spyderco Native 5
The Native 5 is available in several versions and materials. The family includes back-lock configurations, but a plug from another generation or variant is not enough to confirm the steel, weight or dimensions of the chosen offer.
Compare the manufacturer reference, the blade shape and the method of closing. Do not apply to this model the dimensions of a knife different from the Spyderco range. Consult the reference sheet actually sold before choosing.
Choose a specialized hunting model
A hook, an interchangeable blade or a large handle meet particular tasks. They do not prevent a cutting error and can complicate maintenance. Ask for a demonstration and cleaning instructions before holding them for a food or hunting activity.
An advertised product “Omni Hunter 12PT” can be confused with another configuration. Check explicitly whether it is folding or fixed. A fixed blade should not be inserted into a lockback comparison as if the mechanism were the same.
Use and maintain without improvisation
Cut away from the body and on a suitable support. Keep other people out of the path. Do not force the blade laterally and do not hit it to split wood. Close and store the knife as soon as the task is complete.
