Make a concrete inventory to choose the next useful actions, without confusing a questionnaire and a guarantee of security.
The material does not say everything.
A lamp without usable batteries, a can opener not found or a known plan of a single person reveal gaps that the shopping list does not show. Start by checking what exists and how it would be used.
A self-assessment is neither a professional inspection nor a prediction of your reaction. It serves to highlight the needs, uncertainties and actions to be taken. A possible score should not mask medical dependence or immediate danger.
Examine key areas
- Water and food: quantities, access, rotation and safe means of use.
- Housing and energy: temperature, lighting and solutions adapted to the devices.
- Health: treatments, conservation, materials and helps to organize with professionals.
- Communication: contacts, alerts and alternatives.
- Departure: documents, transport, people to help and animals.
- Skills: known gestures, practical training and announced exercises.
Needs vary by person and territory. A general list must be adapted; it does not prove that all elements have the same priority.
Check with observations
Don’t just say “we have water” or “we know where to go.” Count the reserves, find the contact details and check the availability of the place. Ask another person to find the essential information.
Note three simple states: checked, to be completed and unknown. An unknown point calls for a search or a contact, not necessarily a purchase. For drugs and work, competent persons must guide the decision.
Choose a first action
Consider an important gap and an improvement that can be achieved with your means. Specify the task, the person and the deadline. Safety or health emergencies require an appropriate response without waiting for the end of the diagnosis.
Also start with what costs little: contacts, storage, sharing information and discussing the plan. Then compare the necessary solutions, with their conditions of use and maintenance.
Check the progress
After an action, repeat the verification. A paper exercise can show a forgotten addiction without interrupting the essential services of the home. A useful result is an effectively improved ability, not just a score increase.
Update the state of play after a move, birth or health change. Agree on a regular appointment adapted to your organization. The preparation is maintained over time, with the people who will use it.
